Tiptoe through the Tulips
One of the most beautiful sites in the spring is Tulip Time in Holland, Michigan. There are over 5 million tulips planted throughout the Holland area. The two-week festival is a prime time to experience the Dutch culture and share in the beauty of flowers, flowers, everywhere. Come and tiptoe through the tulips with me this spring!
Tiptoe through the Tulips
Holland has plenty of parking in the downtown area so; you won’t have to walk far to see all the parks, avenues, and gardens filled with tulips.
I walked to Centennial Park where there was a cluster of tulips in a multitude of colors. You can wander through the gardens or get photos of yourself and with your families. There were even Dutch dressed guides to answer any tulip questions you might have.
Even though it was an overcast day, I still think I got some beautiful shots. When you are shooting flowers even if it is overcast, you can still get some good shots. Remember to take close-ups and further away ones to get different perspectives. I didn’t have my macro lens on this particular day so, I just leaned up really close for some of them. Also, it helps to bend down and take some pictures at flower level, vary the height of which they are taken.
Windmill Island Gardens is a must-see when visiting the Holland area. The highlight is the 250-year old Dutch windmill. It is the only authentic working windmill in the United States.
You can get immersed in Dutch culture at Windmill Island. Besides the amazing tulips, you can ride a Dutch Carousel, walk around the gardens, canals, and bridges. There are beautiful colored buildings that house mini Amsterdam villages, cafes, and the gift shop where you can try on and buy wooden shoes. I also took a tour of the working windmill. It is like stepping back in time.

Another place to visit on your tour of Holland and the Tulip Festival is Veldheer Tulip Gardens.
The enjoyment of this garden is that you can walk through 5 million tulips with the tulip catalog and circle the ones you like to order at the end of your visit. The flowers are shipped in October to be planted, and then you can have your own tulip garden in the spring.
I would love to hear what you think of my tulip photos!
