Parade of Tulips

One of the highlights of town festivals is the Parade of Tulips and the one in Holland, Michigan at Tulip Time is one of the most delightful ones to experience. I happened to be in town on the last Saturday during the Tulip Festival and after picking up, a brochure noticed I had a couple of hours to explore before the Music Parade. I trekked it over to Centennial Park to explore the tulip gardens and experiment with a digital camera & macro zoom lens. Funky but, they have something interesting to them as well.  What do you think? You can see more of my tulip pictures here.

When it was time for the parade, I headed back and managed to snag a front row seat on a curb next to a lovely family. Time to enjoy the parade of floats, antique cars, marching bands, Dutch dancers, and of course lots and lots of tulips.

Each vehicle in the parade had tulips somewhere on them.  Plus, every local/state government official had a car or walked in the parade, and every club/organization participated in the parade.  It was a sweet moment when each military group went past, the crowd stood up and cheered.

The old fire engines were nice to see coming down the street. Loved the Dalmatian on the truck!

Without realizing it, I had witnessed the longest parade route in Michigan.  The Music Parade lasted 3 hours, and it was highly entertaining.  There are three separate parades during the Tulip Festival so, definitely take some time to see one, you won’t be disappointed.
