“The Apache Trail combines the grandeur of the Alps, the Glory of the Rockies, the magnificence of the Grand Canyon and then adds an indefinable something that none of the others have. To me, it is the most awe-inspiring and most sublimely beautiful panorama nature has ever created.” President Theodore Roosevelt, 1858-1919
The Top 8 Must-See Sites on the Apache Trail
2. Roosevelt Dam – At the end of Route 88 is the world’ s tallest masonry dam back in 1911 which was 280 feet high. The current height is now 357 feet. The blocks of stone used in the dam were carved out of the canyon walls. Not as big as the Hoover dam but, still very impressive to see up close.
5. Tortilla Flat – an old stagecoach stop with a population of 6. This town was such a fun place to visit. It has the most amazing old buildings on this road. You can spend quite some time at Tortilla Flats so, plan accordingly. Don’t forget to watch out for the water on the road as you continue your drive along the Apache Trail.
6. One Lane Bridge on the Apache Trail – always fun to drive over these especially if it has breath-taking scenery.
