Experience Europe in Columbus, Ohio at German Village

Ever spend a weekend in Columbus, Ohio, then you have to visit German Village. This National Register of Historic Places is by far one of the neatest places I have visited in a while. I happened to be in Columbus for work and needed something to do in the evenings and German Village provided it!

Where to start? Try the Meeting Haus and Visitor Center on S. 3rd Street to pick up a map of German Village so you won’t get lost. This area is a beautiful 233-acre neighborhood to walk through, and it is also very dog-friendly. There are some amazing little brick houses to see here. With the German architecture, gardens, and parks there is a lot to photograph in this town!

Some cute shops have amazing, creative goodies that you can get as souvenirs. Or you can be like me and do a little Christmas shopping early. You can find something for anyone. One of the places I stopped at was Helen Winnemore’s. This highly recommended shop has tons of beautiful wearable art.

If you happen to get hungry while walking around, stop in at Schmidt’s Sausage Haus for a great dining experience. I tried the buffet, and it was an incredible amount of delicious German food!

I enjoyed the atmosphere, the outfits, and the music. Around 7 pm, Der Musik Masters came out and entertained us with authentic German music. What a fantastic way to end the day!

And the highlight of my trip to German Village The Book Loft. I could have spent days in this building that is a whole city block long filled with books, books, and more books. Genre separates 32 rooms that you need a map to figure out how this is all laid out. If you are looking for a particular book this shop will probably have it and will be loads of fun trying to find it. I wandered through each book stack excited to see what would be around the corner. I left with six books for various family members and myself. I probably could have left with a lot more but, I thought it would be nice to leave some books for the rest of you! Enjoy! I know you will!
